The region known as Chevy Chase is both a town and an unincorporated region consisting of several villages with a common history. The area was first developed by two men in the late 1800s who made their fortunes in the gold and silver mines of the west. The area started booming in the early 1900s when property lots were improved and the population increased. There is ample shopping available with the very popular Friendship Heights shopping district close at hand, along with a convenient commute to other D.C. area attractions. Students here attend schools in the Montgomery County Public Schools District.
